Top 5 Reasons Why Sandusky is an Amazing Boating Town

Before you think it, we know and you’re right — There’s way more than five reasons for why Sandusky is a great port town, but for brevity’s sake we’re going for the abridged version here.  Sandusky sits neatly on Sandusky Bay, the perfect natural harbor that has always been an ideal spot for pleasure boats to tie up and come ashore.  Now in 2017, folks have an even more amazing array of options once they’ve stepped off their vessel.  And if you haven’t already, you’ll too find out that those options are pretty awesome.

Location, Location, Location — It’s an age old saying and one that truly does hold water: Location is everything.  We’re unbelievably lucky to call such a unique spot home.  Freshwater right at our doorstep, gorgeous natural scenery, islands just a boat ride away, the world’s best amusement park across the bay…the list could go on.  Speaking of, check out this pretty photo of the Goodtime I.  Have we mentioned the sunsets here are unreal?

Docks for Days — Whether it’s’ the Paper District Marina pictured below, Cedar Point Marina or the multitude of other available dockage options, there’s no shortage of places for boaters to tie up and plot their day’s course.

The Sand Bar — Bay side or lake side?  Whichever one you prefer, the Sand Bar is easily one of the best little freshwater gems for boaters in the area.  Navigate your way through the shallows, point the bow into the wind, set an anchor, grab the cooler and dig your toes into the sand.  It’s so relaxing just thinking about it — Is it summer yet?

Boat Drinks — It’s no mystery that boaters generally enjoy adult beverages and that’s good because Sandusky has a ton of options.  We’d be remiss not to mention rooftop drinks at Moseley’s first because well, you know.  Then there’s speakeasy cocktails at Volstead Bar, rum punches at Dockside, tasty pints at Shorehouse, etc.  Whatever elixir you’re craving, chances are you can find it in Sandusky.  Of course you could always relax on your boat, in which case please save one for us.

Kayaking — Who said boats had to be powered by engine or sail?  Paddling is just as acceptable and a fantastic way to explore the area from a different perspective.  Luckily for us, this region of Ohio has a multitude of entry points and calm water to slice through.

Overnight Accommodations — Okay, okay, I know we said five reasons, but we had to throw a bonus reason in there.  Not since they 1960’s has there been a spot in downtown Sandusky to lay your head and if you’re reading this blog, you probably already noticed which new hotel we’re referring to.  See you downtown!
